Final US position limits rule will take ‘at least a year’

Eric Juzenas, a director in consultancy Chatham Financial’s global regulatory solutions team, who has held various advisory positions at the CFTC, says: “On the one hand, position limits are targeted at making sure there is no adverse impact from excessive speculation. On the other, you want to make sure any position limits that apply don’t negatively impact the ability of firms to hedge their commercial transactions – their commodity risk. This is the key question that has dogged the position limits rule from the beginning.”
